What are nano rings and how are they fitted?
Nano tip hair extensions are still relatively new, and are becoming increasingly popular. The nano tip method is one of the safest, least damaging methods, with no glue or heat needed. They are barely detectable and are 90% smaller than the traditional micro ring, making them very comfortable and discreet to wear.
Nano rings are simply installed by taking small sections of your own hair, sliding the tiny nano ring onto the section, the hair extension is then inserted inside the bead and clamped down securely.
How do I look after them?
Prior to your hair extensions being fitted ensure your hair is washed, preferably with a clarifying shampoo and no conditioner of any kind. This removes any residues including oil and product build up, doing so can prevent slippage and loss after fitting.
Colouring or tinting the extension hair is not advisable as doing so can cause damage and even though our extensions are 100% human hair, they are not receiving nutrients from the scalp the way that your own natural hair does. As lighter shades are bleached, therefore need extra care and as little heat as possible to prolong it's life.
The more heat you use on the hair extension the shorter the life span of the hair will be, treat your extensions with the same respect as you would with you own natural hair.
After the installation of your hair extensions do not wash your hair for at least 2-3 days, and ideally only 2-3 times a week thereafter. Use a dry shampoo in between washes such as "Batiste" on any oily root areas. Tie your hair back in a loose ponytail or plait for bed. Never wear your extensions for longer than 3 months continuously as during this time your hair will have grown by approx 1.5 inches, and the roots of your hair could start to tangle together.
The first thing you may notice after your hair extension installation is that for a few days your scalp may feel tender and 'tight', this is normal and will pass.
Your hair should only be washed between 2-3 times per week. Before washing it is advised to detangle your extension hair with a wide tooth comb and separate the bonds. Ideally you should only use shampoo and conditioner that is designed for hair extensions.
When washing your hair, do not tip your head over the bath as this could cause tangling - always wash with your head upright and wash hair in a downward motion. Smooth the shampoo down the extension hair – do not rub vigorously! Only condition from the mid lengths to the end of the hair. Do not apply any conditioner to the bonds as this will cause slippage.
It is advisable to use a leave in conditioning spray, followed by gently detangling with a wide tooth comb, making sure you avoid catching the bonds. It is always best to dry the hair fully before thoroughly brushing through, make sure you support the extensions hair by holding the bonds while brushing.
For a classy finish, section your hair off and blow dry using a round brush with soft bristles. Be very careful that you do not snag the bonds. Straighten or curl and and you're ready to go!
Heated Rollers, Straighteners, crimpers and tongs can all be used on the extension hair although it is recommended to use a Heat Protection Spray to protect the both your hair and the extension hair. Serums, oils, hairsprays, etc may all be used but avoid the bonded areas as this may cause slippage.
Your extensions are attached to your own natural hair, pulling too hard or mistreating your extensions can result in your own hair being pulled out. The only brush you should use near to your extension bonds is an extension brush or tangle teezer – these brushes have soft looped bristles meaning the brush gently glides over the bonds. When brushing the extensions always hold the bonds, so that no unnecessary stress is put on the hair.
If you use a sun bed it is best to wrap you hair in a towel first. Sun beds can dry out the hair and melt/soften the bonds. If you exercise regularly or regularly use a sauna or steam room make sure the bonds are completely dried as soon as possible after your session
Swimming & Sun
It is not recommended that you swim when wearing extensions as water exposure especially with chemicals such as chlorine, may weaken the bonds. Chlorine in pools and salt in the sea combined with heat can also cause the extension hair to discolour, deteriorate in condition and matt. If you do swim, it is best to braid your hair and clip to the op of your head avoiding getting the extensions subme
Good Aftercare is essential!
It is very important that you take good care of your hair extensions and use the correct products (which I will advise on consultation) Hair extensions cost money and time, so it is in your best interests to look after them well. You also need to keep your hair in really good condition by using a moisturising conditioner, making sure that the conditioner does not come close to the bonds as this can cause the bonds to deteriorate and slip.
Remember it is absolutely normal to lose some hairs when brushing, we naturally lose up to 100 hairs a day. A maintenance appointment should be made 6-8 after you've had your extensions fitted to make sure everything is going well. If you need any bonds removed or replaced then this is the time to do it.
When aftercare advice is followed your hair extensions can last up to 12 months with proper maintenance.
When the time arrives to have them removed, this is done very quickly and easily. The bead is simply squeezed open and the hair extension slides out with no damage to your own hair - infact you may notice that your own hair has grown a little!
